KEEP ON DREAMING OF……?

WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS?

Do you dream of a having a better life than what you have experienced in recent years? Most people in a lower income bracket would say yes please! Who wouldn’t want to resign from their day job that they may hate if they could?

If you are dreaming of becoming an online success promoting other people’s products and services (or your own) you must have clarity about the reasons why you want to follow that path. The reasons why can help to keep you motivated to get through the hard times when you will not be making any commissions or not getting any subscribers to follow you.

THE WHY?

* Is it because you want to get rich quick? if the answer is yes, then forget it and look for something else like robbing a bank! (lol)

*Do you dream of owning multiple properties in one or more countries?

*Do you want to travel more often or go on family vacations as often as you want every year?

*Would you like to buy a bigger house for your family?

*Do you dream of owning a garage full of luxury cars?

*Do you want to be able to spend more money on dining out and entertainment?

*Do you dream of a better future for you and your loved ones?

*Do you dream of having more flexibility in the hours you work?

*Do you want to be a better role model to your children and make them proud of your achievements?

*Do you want to expand an existing business and grow your brand?

Whatever your reasons having clarity will help you keep more motivated, stay more focused, get better results and help you fight on regardless of how hard it may get!

TO DREAM OR NOT TO DREAM……

I believe that you should listen to your heart rather than your head and chase your dream/s. Make them come true if you truly believe you have the drive, passion, knowledge  and mindset and have done some research and have your finances sorted.

Many opportunities are presented to us during our lifetime. We let the fear of failure and of getting out of our comfort zone stop us. Sometimes we delay our decision only to find out the opportunity has disappeared because of  our procrastination. I am a Gemini and a trait of that star sign is we have trouble making decisions. It is like two people, one saying” go for it” and the other saying “now hang on a minute- what if?” So I have been a procrastinator most of my life!

You can have regrets that last for a lifetime.. For example I admired my father who was a poorly educated immigrant from Poland who worked hard when he migrated to Australia. Dad saw the benefits of investing in real estate. As a child I watched him buy land mostly which he sold for a profit. He then was able to go on and build a new house in Thomastown for his family and buy another a few years later in the same street as our house and get tenants. I used to say as a young child “When I grow up I want to be like my father and invest in real estate”. When I was finally 18 years of age and able to buy property I passed up on a opportunity to purchase a magnificent block of land in the town of Porepunkah near Bright which is an area popular with tourists. It had frontage to the Ovens River and the asking price was only one thousand dollars back in the 1970’s. Then twenty years later that block was worth over $200k. I had a job and enough money to buy it, but back then teenagers didn’t buy property. We were too busy being a teenager and hanging out with friends and spending our wages on clothes, records and entertainment. I even spent more than $1,000 to go on a cruise with 3 other friends instead of buying that block of land!

DO DREAMS COME TRUE?

Yes they can but they do not always end well or have a happy ever after ending. speaking from my experiences in my life. I met my Prince Charming and had the wedding of my dreams.  Soon after with my dad’s help we built our first home and had two beautiful children. Then my husband ran off with another woman who happened to be my new sister in law’s best friend so it ended in divorce but luckily I kept the house!

Finally my dream of investing in real estate came true and I purchased a great 2 bedroom apartment in the renovated  ex Catholic monastery in Wendouree in Ballarat near Lake Wendouree. The first 3 years were great, but then a few consecutive tenants broke their leases because of the issue that the apartment was on the third floor and one tenant broke her ankle making access difficult and the other tenant had a toddler and had issues getting prams and the child up and down the stairs. So it was left vacant for a year while I slowly decorated and furnished the apartment to a good enough standard to list it on Stayz.  Over 3 million visitors come to Ballarat every year mainly to visit the historic Sovereign Hill old gold mining town. So my dream of having a B&B property came true and for 5 years I ran a successful B&B which had a 5 star rating from day one. During that time the 2 lots of body corporate fees that affected the apartment had increased after a new company took over and started making very little improvements. So fees had risen from one to eight thousand dollars annually since my ownership. Then disaster strikes during the Covid 19 pandemic but the fees still had to be paid so I got behind in my payments. So I was forced to eventually sell it after the pandemic was over. I had to borrow money from a friend to make a few improvements to get a better price for it.

My dream of being my own boss came true 15 years ago after I gained enough experience from working  for three years as a home carer for Bayside Council. I helped elderly residents who needed help running errands like paying bills, banking, shopping and buying their groceries as well as cleaning their homes and doing any ironing when required. So I started my own cleaning business and worked the hours I wanted and now work 5 days a week.

MY REASONS WHY ….

This could be the most challenging dream of all so far to turn into a reality as I don’t possess the right skills as yet to become successful and have very little experience of using social media. Some people already possess the right mindset or may already have enough experience to follow the necessary training at a faster rate than I have been or maybe they have more free time to spend on building their businesses. I am not feeling as uncomfortable about what lies ahead as I did in the beginning when I was so out of my comfort zone and  more fearful  of what was coming in the near future like making videos on TikTok and YouTube and emailing subscribers.

*The cost of living crisis in Australia is frightening when you are wanting to retire soon and get a government pension. We currently have the highest prices for groceries  in the world. Inflation had soared to record levels after Covid 19 and to try to reduce the inflation rates the reserve bank decided to increase the interest rate charges on mortgages . Twelve interest rate rises in about the last 15 months and inflation decreased only slightly as a result. Three years ago I had no debts and would have qualified for a pension by now if I hadn’t chased another real estate dream gone sour! How some pensioners survive on just over $500 a week when utility bills are increasing at an alarming rate  I don’t know. In the meantime the utility companies are making record profits at our expense!

*I want to help my children to have the chance to put a reasonable deposit on their first homes and not have to wait until they inherit.

*I want to travel around Australia in my retirement years and do a few overseas trips and be able to fund it from earning passive income from recurring commissions. You can travel and work as an affiliate from anywhere there is an internet connection.

*As a family we need to spend more vacations together and make good memories for the grandchildren.

*I want to become a better version of myself and make my children proud.

*I want to spend more time with my three grandchildren especially my youngest one. Shania has autism and was non verbal until about the age of 3.5 years of age. Speech therapy has helped and I have been introducing different forms of music to her which she absolutely loves. She loves watching videos of children who can sing opera. Singing along to nursery rhymes has helped to improve the way she speaks and every week she is saying new words but still Shania cannot construct a long sentence or ask a question properly. She is such a happy 4 year old who is very affectionate and clever in some ways. She already knows how to make her own videos which is her new found passion.

*I want to be able to go into a supermarket and buy anything I desire, buy some new clothes and have regular visits to a hairdresser. I am fed up with many years of being self employed but still not able to make enough money to live better. The fact that my daughter and her partner moved in 4 years ago and have not done the right thing by me have a lot to do with my financial shortfall. I mean they very rarely contributed to the utility bills or gave me any board money. They were supposed to be saving for a deposit to buy a house. Instead they have wasted so much of their money buying designer clothing and shoes and expensive toys for Shania that were not age appropriate. They spent thousands on buying two English Staffordshire. puppies which they neglect and don’t get walked.  No matter how much pressure my son and myself put on them to contribute something, nothing had changed until this week. I threatened them with eviction! It is something I do not want to do as I want to keep a close watch on Shania and give her the support she doesn’t always get from her parents. Most of my income goes towards the running costs of my business and utility bills etc. with nothing much left over for myself.

You cannot replace the income that you earn from your day job by switching too soon to affiliate marketing. You must gradually build up the momentum and traffic and grow your email lists to have more then a thousand subscribers. You must try to do some research and learn to read your analytics that track your sales to see what might need improving. The wheels you set in motion will turn slowly possibly for months. You have to try different strategies to see which ones work better. So you must try to be diligent and more organized and be more consistent before you can be very successful.

I hope to be earning my first dollar soon and I hope you stick around to help me celebrate every milestone.

Bye for now

  1. You may not have some of the social media skills all figured out yet, but I’m sure starting, building, and managing your own business for 15 years has given you skills that most people don’t have. That experience can help you achieve the goals you have and achieve your dreams

    1. Hi Nathan,
Yes I suppose I have learnt some skills running two successful businesses over the years. But there is still so much more to learn about affiliate marketing strategies and now there will be AI that we should maybe use in the future to keep up with our competitors. I still need to practice my skills of using Canva and CapCut and making videos. My 4 year old granddaughter makes me laugh as she has a passion for making her own videos and taking photographs. She wasn’t good at first but now she has made a couple nice videos of herself and our family.
Take care and I hope you have a good weekend.

    2. Hi Nathan,
At least when I was running my B&B apartment called Tres Angelique in Ballarat in Victoria I learnt some skills that may help me in affiliate marketing. Ballarat is known for being the site of a big Gold rush in the 1850’s where miners were not fairly treated by the police and there was a big uprising of disgruntled miners not happy with licensing laws. The battle took place at the Eureka Stockade site. A tourist village was built around the site of a large goldmine at Sovereign Hill decades ago. Three million visitors from all over the world go there every year. So I had to communicate with my guests via my email before and during their stay or sometimes a quick phone call to see if they had arrived safely or to check they had settled in okay. I would throw in a huge selection of free food for their breakfast needs after emailing them to see what they would like to eat. I had to work hard to maintain the high standard expected of a 5 star rated property on Stayz over a 5 year period. Also I was running my cleaning business in Melbourne and had to fit in customers around the bookings for my Ballarat apartment. I cherish my vistor’s book that has hundreds of comments from happy guests as I sold my apartment in Ballarat due to the devastating effect the Covid 19 pandemic had on my bookings and my finances.
I suppose I was looking after my guests like I will be looking after my subscribers to my email list on my owned asset! LOL.
